No matter what ministry anyone is involved
in for the Lord there always seem to be “those days”. Today was like that for
me. I usually feel a combination of sadness, joy, compassion, excitement,
thankfulness, sorrow, and other emotions as I prepare to go out to the abortion
mill. But this morning, there was nothing. It is hard (read impossible) to pour
anything out of an empty cup, so I desperately prayed that the Lord would fill
me. As He is always faithful to do, He did so once again for me today! I was so
thankful that He was there for me when I needed it most!
I was also thankful that my sister
was able to go along with me this morning (and that she was able and willing to
drive since my toe is still healing!). Her kindred heart for life is a blessing
and I thank the Lord for the sweet times we are able to spend together, though
they are marked with sorrow because of our mission.
As the title of my post implies, I was thinking about fear today. One
kind of fear is bad, and that is the fear of man, situations, or anything
except God. God is able to deliver us from that fear, and He certainly did
today even though the darkness was very real and sometimes felt overwhelming.
We asked for His peace to reign in our hearts and He was our supply when we
felt the heat of the battle.
The other kind of fear
is good, but we witnessed many situations where it was absent today. All I
could think of is where it says in the Bible “there is no fear of God before
their eyes”. When I got home I had to look up the rest of that passage. It is
very fitting: “Transgression speaks to the ungodly within his heart; there is
no fear of God before his eyes. For it flatters him in his eyes concerning the
discovery of his iniquity and the hatred of it. The words of his mouth are
wickedness and deceit; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. He plans
wickedness upon his bed; he sets himself on a path that is not good; he does
not despise evil.” ~ Psalm
36:1-4
Unlike the last time I
was out, no one stopped to take information or talk with me today. I was
thankful that there were fewer cars in the parking lot than on some other days,
but there were very few receptive hearts. I did see some other pro-lifers
having interactions with people who were coming, though, so I trust that seeds
were planted.
One very sad (albeit common) situation that we saw today was a
disagreement between a father and mother as to whether their child should be
killed. When asked, the father very clearly stated that he wanted his child to
die that day, but it seemed that the mother did not. They drove away and did
not return while we were there, but that is probably not the end of the story.
I ask for your earnest prayer for the mother that she could find the help and
support that she needs (she did not speak with us or take information) and for
the father that he would have the fear of God and not be able to be an
accomplice in the murder of his child.
I could hardly wait to share this with you – one mama chose life today!
And in doing so, she spared the lives of not one but two precious children! Friends, THIS is why we go!
In closing, I want to
share with you a few more verses from Psalm 36 and the first few verses of
chapter 37. It’s a beautiful passage: “Your lovingkindness, O Lord, extends to the heavens, Your
faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
Your judgments are a great deep. O Lord, You preserve man and beast. How precious
is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the
shadow of Your wings. They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house; and
You give them to drink of the river of Your delights. For with You is the
fountain of life; in Your light we see light. . . . Do not fret because of
evildoers, be not envious toward wrongdoers. For they will wither quickly like
the grass and fade like the green herb. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in
the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will
give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in
Him, and He will do it.”
