Home and Kitchen Tips

Over-ripe Bananas
Cut up over-ripe bananas (they can be really over-ripe, just not bad) into halves or thirds and freeze them. Enjoy them later as a healthy and fun alternative to popsicles or ice cream!

Quick Homemade Fruit Popsicles
Put any fruit you have on hand into small paper Dixie cups (some fruits work better than others). You will need to add fruit juice or mashed up fruit to hold it together. Then insert a craft stick and put them in the freezer. When they have fully frozen, peel the paper cup off and enjoy!

Easy sock sorting
Give everyone some safety pins (you can even do a different color for each person!) and have them pin their socks together when they take them off before they put them in the laundry. Your sock sorting is already done before the socks are washed!

How to get rid of fruit flies
Mix 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons dish soap into a bowl. The apple cider vinegar smells like over-ripe fruit, so the flies land on the surface of the mixture. They then drown because the soap keeps them from flying away. (Some kinds of dish soap work better than others, and the amounts of vinegar and soap must be as listed.)

Vinegar as cleaner
Use vinegar to clean your bathroom instead of traditional cleaners. Not only does it work well, it is also safer and cheaper. (You might have to get used to the smell, though, if you use apple cider vinegar!)

Used toothbrushes
Save used toothbrushes. They can be used for scrubbing in hard-to-reach or really dirty places. Put a black “X” on the handle so that you know not to use it on your teeth!

Keeping track of cups
Use a piece of masking tape and a marker. Put each person’s name or a designated initial on the tape and stick that on the cup. You can keep the same cup for the whole day. It saves on dishes!

How neat!!! I think we have done all of those things except the sock sorting. And for cups, my mom actually laminated a piece of paper with circles on it for each cup. Each circle has a name, and that is where our cups go. :) It saves the confusion of having multiple cups a person to, since we each have one circle :D. we make zuccini pickles, since that seems to grow more plentiful than our squash. We have made squash too though.
