Do Not Be Partakers With Them

In light of the “holiday” that our nation celebrates tomorrow, consider the following passage of Scripture. Pay special attention to the bold and underlined sections.

"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma . . . Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you." Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ."
~ Ephesians 5:1+2, 7-21

Now think a little bit about some of the things associated with Halloween. Black. Skulls. Night time. Spiders. Witches. . . . the list could go on. Do these things imitate God? Isn’t God a God of light, life, and holiness?
Some Christians just take part in some aspects of Halloween, or try to turn it into a community or outreach event. However, the verse above says that we are not to participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness or even to speak of the things done by them! My family tries not to even go to most stores for a few weeks leading up to Halloween because of the deep, dark, spiritual oppression and wickedness that are there.
Should a Christian, in light of the Word of God, be connected in any way to this demonic “holiday”, even if we do it differently or don’t do the “bad parts”? We are not to be partakers with those who are in darkness, but instead we are to imitate God and be careful how we walk because the days are evil.

I really don't understand why Christians think Halloween is acceptable...I was recently very disturbed to find out a good friend of mine participated in it. :(. It is just SO wicked, and you're right, the Bible teaches we should have nothing to do with it. This is kind of how I feel towards Christmas as well, with all of it's satanic roots. Why would I want any part of evil??!! My Savior is worth more than the "Christian" or "good" parts of a bad holiday!!! This was a very good post, I really enjoy reading your blog!

I can't even step foot in Wal-Mart for a couple weeks before Halloween . . . I agree with you on not understanding how Christians can celebrate (or have anything to do with) a "holiday" with such Satanic connections and symbols.

Same here with Christmas, although at least I can go into the store in December without feeling and seeing the wickedness and darkness to the same extent!

Thank you, Theresa, I'm glad you're enjoying it!
