“What we
do is none of your business! You live
your life and let us live ours! Shut up!” This is what one grandmother shouted
to us today (along with a string of profanities) as she dropped her daughter
off and then left with two granddaughters in the back seat of her car.
Despite what this grandmother, and many other
people, would like to think, what happens at abortion mills is absolutely my
business. Any time another human being’s life is in question, we not only have
the right but we have the responsibility to do what we can to protect that
life. Think about it this way: if a two-year-old ran out in front of an
oncoming car would you say, “Leave that to the mother. That’s none of my
business.”?
When I arrived at the mill this morning, there were
already a few vehicles in the parking lot. Within the first five minutes I was
able to give out information to two women and hold a short conversation with
each, although they both claimed that they were not there for abortion. I
shared with them that no matter what they were there for it supported the
killing of children which God says is always wrong.
I had brought along our portable speaker and
although I felt nervous because it was my first time using amplification at an
abortion mill, I tried to put my nervousness aside and focus on why I was
there. It’s strange how we humans are; what is there to be nervous about
sharing God’s truth and offering hope to people?
I was thankful that I was available to go out and
minister this morning since only one of the other pro-lifers who is usually at this
clinic on Tuesdays was able to be there today. Between this other woman and
myself, we had quite a number of interactions. One was a father who we stopped
on his way out after he dropped his wife off. He was almost in tears and
explained that they already had two children but his wife has a medical
condition where she cannot have another child. We tried to explain that killing
his child was not the answer and that we could get them some other help, but he
did not care enough to go back in and bring his wife out. Why he was almost in
tears we do not know, but after he pulled out we prayed that God would open
their eyes and lead them to repentance. God is the giver of life and God alone
must be the taker.
Another conversation that I had was with a woman who
stopped at my prompting, but would not take the information I offered. She said
that she had read it before. I asked her if she was there for an abortion, to
which she answered “no”. (I did kind of believe her since she was not in the
typical abortion-bound woman’s clothing.) I asked her if she knew that
abortions were done there. She said that she did, and told me that she was just
there to see a friend. I told her to bring her friend out and that this was not
a good place for anyone to be. She said “thank you for being out here”, but I
never saw her again. Sometimes there are mysteries that we may never figure out
. . .
I have never seen the parking lot at this mill as
full as it was today. By noon, it was so full that a few vehicles had to park
on the grass on the far side of the parking lot because all of the spaces were
filled up. My heart was filled with such sorrow and anger over the deception
and injustice that I saw today. Stericycle’s appearance to cart away the bodies
of precious children who have been murdered would have been enough. But then the
abortionist arrived, eating a sandwich on his way to carry out slaughter. If it
weren’t for the thought of my own precious family and the opportunity to go
stand out in front of abortion mills in the future, I think that my “righteous
indignation” would have led me to do something more. I almost couldn’t bear to
just stand by and let him go in!
The fact that our littlest neighbors are being
killed is our business. May
God give each of us wisdom to know how He wants each of us to carry out our
responsibility!
(Note: “A” from my last mill
update did end up going through with an abortion yesterday. Please pray that
she would repent. She knew the truth and willingly turned against it.)
